RM Sotheby's concludes 2015 with $525 million in sales
RM Sothebys has concluded 2015 with sales totalling $525 million, the best result in the company's history.
Having formed a landmark partnership with Sotheby's at the start of the year, the company saw a 26% increase on their 2014 figures, generated by the sale of 784 vehicles across 10 different auctions around the world.
Of these cars, 113 achieved prices in excess of $1 million, with 15 selling for more than $5 million and six topping the $10 million mark. They accounted for 15 of the top 25 most valuable vehicles auctioned anywhere in the world in 2015, and helped the company set several new records along the way.
In August the company's flagship Monterey sale, held alongside the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, realized $172.9 million, setting a new record as the biggest collector car auction of all time. The three-day event included the remarkable private collection of supercars known as the Pinnacle Portfolio, which set a new record for the highest-grossing single day, single vendor car auction ever held with a total of $75.4 million.
The company ended the year with the show-stopping 'Driven by Disruption' auction in New York, featuring a selection of hand-picked cars which rewrote the automotive rule book.
Topping the sale was an ex-Works 1956 Ferrari 290 MM driven by racing legend Juan Manuel Fangio, which became both the most valuable car of 2015 and the most valuable in the company's history when it sold for $28.05.
Throughout the year, RM Sotheby's achieved its biggest-ever results in Arizona, Paris, Amelia Island, Hershey and New York.
“It’s been another thrilling year for the RM team, with the honor of selling some of the world’s greatest cars and partnering with some of the world’s leading automotive events and brands, including BMW’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este,” says Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Sotheby’s Europe and Chief Auctioneer.
“For me personally, the privilege of selling six of the top 10 automobiles at auction this year, including the most valuable car in RM history, was particularly exhilarating. We remain incredibly positive heading into 2016 and look forward to bringing more great automobiles and single-vendor collections to market.”
