Mecum Auctions is heading to Houston next month, for another hotly-anticipated sale at the NRG Arena.

The auction will offer a line up of around 1,000 collector cars, with Resto Mods, Hot Rods, American classics and European supercars offering something for every collector.

At the centre of the sale is a group of more than 50 vehicles from the renowned LaQuay Automobile Collection, assembled over a lifetime by Tim LaQuay and his wife Linda.

LaQuay's love of fast cars began as a child, with Saturday Matinee showings of 'Thunder Road' starring Robert Mitchum and books about drag racing.

He began working at his father's Exxon Service Station when he was 13, and by the age of 14 had saved up enough to purchase his first car – a 1957 Ford.

What followed was more than 50 years of automobile collecting, a passionate hobby he has shared with his wife Linda, daughter Amy and grandson Ryan. Now a portion of the LaQuay Collection will cross the block at Mecum, with all cars offered at No Reserve.

The wide ranging collection features everything from modern performance vehicles to vintage muscle cars, with highlights including a 2005 Ford GT; a 2002 Shelby Cobra 40th Anniversary; a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window Coupe; a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429; a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda; and a 1970 Chevelle LS6.

"Cars have come, and cars have gone. Vehicles like these should not be stored out of sight, they should be out where the public can enjoy them, drive them, learn about them, and the next generation can start to protect and preserve them."

Elsewhere the Houston sale will feature notable cars from pre-war to the present day, including a 2015 Lamborghini Huracan LP610; a 2015 Lamborghini Aventador; a 1969 Shelby GT500 Fastback; a 1957 Ford Thunderbird F-Bird; a 1928 Packard 526 Phaeton; and a 1930 Cadillac Series 353 Convertible Coupe.

Enthusiasts will also be able to get their hands on a pair of Resto Mods by Jeff Hayes of American Speed Shop: a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Resto Mod with a new 500 HP GM LS3 engine, 5-speed automatic transmission and a professionally fabricated chassis; and a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Resto Mod, with an LS3 hot-cam crate engine and a Tremec 5-speed transmission.

The Mecum Auctions Houston sale takes place on April 6-8.
