Bonhams June 29th auction of Collectors’ Motor Cars at the Goodwood Festival of Speed will include five impressive private collections amidst the 85 vehicles to be sold.

The collection of the eminent watchmaker George Daniels includes seven cars and two motorcycles. Highly anticipated are his ex-Sir Henry ‘Tim’ Birkin 1929-32 Bentley Supercharged Single-Seater, his 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C-2300 Long Chassis Touring Spider, and his ex-1908 French Grand Prix 1908 Itala 100hp Grand Prix Car. The whole collection is expected to fetch in excess of £8 million.

The Peter Gwynn collection of the Masius managing director comprises the exemplary vintage sports car, the Bentley 3-litre speed model sports two-seater, coachwork by Park Ward. Also offered is a rare Lagonda V12 drophead coupe, and a 1933 Talbot sports saloon.

The collection of super lawyer John O’Quinn is renowned for being one of the world’s largest, reaching at one point 869 cars. Here just two of these are offered, a 1912 Rolls Royce double Pullman limousine, the ‘Silver Ghost’ production known as the Corgi, and a 1938 Bugatti Type 57C, a car so loved it was smuggled to safety for the duration of the Second World War.

The Lotus collection of famed Lotus collector Olav Glasius, comprising 24 vehicles, is set to fetch over £1.3 million. It tells a story of the Lotus car, from the very first innovations of 1953 to the present day. As well as these ultimate racing cars, Mark VI, Marks VII and IX, Le Mans veteran Type 11s, and other examples, there are a selection of restored prime condition road-going super cars such as the Lotus Elite Series II and the Lotus Esprit Turbo. According to Bonhams, ‘Olav Glasius has now hung up his racing overalls and entrusted Bonhams with the sale of his superb collection "so that others can enjoy these wonderful machines".’

The Sir Antony Pilkington collection sees the five remaining motor cars of this famed businessman come to auction, as previously reported.

It is anticipated by many as a truly significant sale of classic cars, and will doubtless see huge interest from collectors, enthusiasts and investors.
