Description: xvi, 446 pp. Twenty inserted photogravure plates. (Folio) 31x22 cm (12x83/4"), original maroon cloth, spine and front cover decorated with images of dancing putti and lettered in gilt. First American Edition, from the sheets of the second English edition. Gaston Charles Vuillier (1847-1915) was best known as an artist and illustrator; but he well displays his scholarly and literary skills in this comprehensive and lavishly illustrated account of dance through the ages.
