Unknown Harper Lee article discovered in FBI magazine
A biographer of Harper Lee has found a previously unknown article written by the author in a magazine for FBI professionals.
The article was written for the March 1960 issue of the magazine, called Grapevine, and deals with the very murder that her friend Truman Capote based his classic novel In Cold Blood on.
Biographer Shields originally found the piece after spotting a post about an upcoming article by Lee in an earlier edition of the magazine, he then contacted Grapevine and asked that they check their archives around that date. Sure enough they uncovered the article about the famous Clutter case.
Shields believes that Lee did not have her name featured in the article in an attempt to avoid stepping on the toes of her friend Truman Capote who at the time she has accompanied to Kansas while he was writing an assignment on the murders for the New Yorker.
The article is now going to be reprinted by Grapevine.
