The Nonesuch DIckens with a steel plate by Phiz
Lot 65: Author: Dickens, Charles. Title: The Nonesuch Dickens. Place Published: Bloomsbury. Publisher: The Nonesuch Press. Date Published: 1937-1938. Description: 25 volumes, including Nonesuch Dickensiana and an original steel engraved plate for an illustration by Phiz. The volumes are illustrated after the original engravings by Phiz (Hablot K. Browne) & others. (Large 8vo) original variously colored buckram, leather spine labels, top edges gilt. One of 877 copies, designed by Francis Meynell, printed at R. & R. Clark. One of the most noteworthy of all collected editions of the Works of Charles Dickens, handsomely printed, and with the superbly reproduced original illustrations. The original steel plate engraving by Phiz is from Martin Chuzzlewit, entitled "Martin Meets an Acquaintance at the House of a Mutual Relation." A print pulled from the plate, as well as a letter of authenticity signed by an officer at Chapman & Hall, Ltd., are also included. Condition: Some fading and light wear to cloth, spine labels lightly worn; very good.
