Lot 245: Author: Trapp Family Singers. Title: Autographs of the Trapp family singers. Place Published: No place. Date Published: 1938. Description: Eleven autographs on a sheet, a program from a concert on board the SS American Farmer, October 15, 1938. Also a photo postcard of the Trapp Family Music Camp, Stowe, Vermont and a piece of sheet music from their repertoire. The von Trapp family's first attempt to flee the coming war in Europe on board the SS American was thwarted when the expiration of their visas in December of 1938 forced their return to Europe. A rare relic of that voyage. Signed by matriarch Maria Augusta van Trapp, and children Agathe, Rupert, Maria, Werner, Hedwig, Johanna, Martina, and Elenore, and one other illegible signature. Also signed by their conductor Franz Warner. The classic film The Sound of Music was based on their experiences escaping the Nazi invasion of Austria. Condition: Some browning and creasing, evidence of prior album mounting; very good.
