Rare First Edition Darwin To Auction For £60,000
A rare first edition copy of Charles Darwin's 'On the Origin of the Species' is set to fetch at least £60,000 when it heads under the hammer.
This edition is particularly valuable as it has been signed by the botanist and explorer Joseph Dalton Hooker who was one of Darwin's closest friends.
Only 1,250 copies of the book were produced for the first edition on the 24th of November 1859, costing 15 shillings (75p in todays money).
The much sought after book will auction at Bonhams on the 25th of March.
