Magna Carta displayed in Hong Kong
An original copy of the Magna Carta has been on display in Hong Kong this week.
It has spent the past month touring the Chinese mainland.
Its showing has proven controversial, however, with Chinese officials ordering the document to be moved to British diplomatic premises from public venues.
The Magna Carta famously limited the powers of the king, a concept that remains a touchy subject in China. Searches for “Magna Carta” have been blocked on the national social network Weibo.
A spokesperson for the British Consulate in Hong Kong said: "We were really delighted that thousands of people in mainland China came to see Magna Carta.”
