Voyage aux Moluques et a la Nouvelle Guinee, fait fur la galere la Tartare en 1774, 1775 & 1776, par ordre de la Compagnie Angloise, 1st ed. in French, Paris, 1780, half title, folding engraved map, 28 engraved plates and plans at end, some folding, scattered light spotting and marginal water stains, recent tan calf-backed boards, spine with green and burgundy labels, 4to. First published in English in 1779, the book recounts East Indiaman Thomas Forrest's journeys to expand the Company's trade beyond the Molucca Islands, then claimed by the Dutch. The voyages took him as far East as Geelvink Bay in New Guinea, before returning to Sumatra, a distance of some 4000 miles. (1)
