Bushnell National Memorial Association; Date Published: 1899; Description: 61 pp. Illustrated from photographs,diagrams, sketches and facsimiles of documents, etc. 24.8x17.5 cm (9¾x6¾"), original pictorial wrappers.The story of the ironclad that fought the Confederate "Merrimac" to a standstill, and provided the model for a fleet of the low-profile floating gun batteries. Bushnell and Ericsson were both instrumental in its development and manufacture. There were two 1899 editions, one of 50 pages, and this less common one of 61 pages. The second edition appeared in 1906. Condition: Spine strip renewed, some other neat restoration to wrappers; very good.
