Profusely illustrated with wood engravings from drawings by Winslow Homer, F.O.C. Darley, Thomas Nast and many other artists, and after photographs by Matthew Brady, Alexander Gardner and others; many full or double-page illustrations. (Folio) 40x28 cm (15¾x11"), finely rebound in three-quarter brown morocco and green marbled boards, spines gilt, top edges gilt.An uninterrupted run of this prototypical American illustrated weekly, covering the years of the Civil War, presenting to the American people in graphic detail the struggle, slaughter, and progress of the war, and making household names of such contributors as Winslow Homer and Matthew Brady. This set finely and uniformly bound, perhaps the nicest sets we have handled. Condition: Some light edge wear and rubbing; a few minor flaws within; very good or better.
