Lot 59: Author: London, Jack. Title: John Barleycorn - inscribed by the author. Place Published: New York. Publisher: Century Co. Date Published: 1913. Description: (vi), 343, (1) pp. Frontispiece and 7 plates by H. T. Dunn. 19x12. 7 cm (7½x5"), original dark green cloth lettered in gilt. First Edition, First Printing. First printing with one blank leaf preceding rear free endpaper. Inscribed by London on front free endpaper: "Dear George Phipps:- First time I've been home since I saw you last. Just arrived back from New York. Regards to you & yours, Jack London." George Phipps was the bridgetender mentioned in The Valley of the Moon. Signed by London's daughter, Becky London, on front pastedown. BAL 11946; Sisson & Martens, p. 71. Spine leaning, some wear and soiling to cloth; very good.
