Lot 569: Churchill (Winston S.). My Early Life. A Roving Commission, reprinted, 1949, map, illustrations after photographs, modern full calf, gilt decorated spine with contrasting red and black morocco labels, 8vo, together with five press photographs of Churchill amongst crowds in central London, speaking to the public, etc., circa 1945, a typewritten copy of Churchill's message to the Civil Service dated 8th May 1945 (the day of the General Election), and the original National Registration Identity Card for Gordon J. Green, with his photograph and signature, issued 14th August 1940. Woods A37a. Author's presentation copy, inscribed to front blank 'To Sergeant Gordon Green from Winston S. Churchill, 1952'. Gordon J. Green (1908-1991) was a British Police officer who jointed Special Branch in 1938. He served as Protection Officer to Churchill in 1945, and again in 1951/52, and accompanied the Prime Minister to the Potsdam Conference of the Heads of Government of the USSR, USA and Great Britain (President Truman, Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill, (the latter replaced by Clement Attlee following the Conservative defeat in the General Election).
