Travels and Researches in Crete, 2 volumes, 1st edition, 1865, two folding hand-coloured engraved maps on thin paper (one at end of each volume), fourteen tinted lithograph plates (including folding panoramic view of Candia), two plates of inscriptions, one plate of coins, twenty-four uncoloured lithograph illustrations pasted to text on india paper, two pages publisher's advertisments (one to front of volume 1 and another at rear of volume 2), one or two signatures partly loosened, original brown cloth gilt, slightly rubbed and some fraying to spine, 8vo. A detailed and scholarly account of the island, which emphasises Spratt's interest in archaeology and ethnology, together with an important study of the Cretan dialect by Viscount Strangford. (2)
