Lot 483: Author: N/A; Title: Calendar display board for Tom's Dixie Kitchen, Inc., in Manila, with small calendar for 1924 attached; Place Published: Manila, Philippine Islands; Publisher: N/A; Date Published: c.1924; Description: Display board is 47x27 cm (16½x10¾"), thin cardboard lettered and decorated in silver ink, with oval halftone photograph of the dining room.Rare ephemeral display for Tom's Dixie Kitchen, founded by an African American man, Thomas Pritchard, who had shipped to the Philippines in the wake of American occupation, found work cooking southern style luncheons at an upscale Manila restaurant, then founded Tom's Dixie Kitchen, which grew from a few tables to encompass an entire city block, serving 1200 customers a day.
