One of 300 copies. Seventh Edition, Fourteenth Printing. Signed by Walt Whitman on the title page, as issued. Inscribed by Richard Maurice Bucke for a Mrs. Burt. Inscription dated 20 May 1898 at the Asylum, London, Ontario where Buck was a doctor for the insane. Bucke was Whitman's close friend, biographer, and literary executor. A special edition, published to coincide with Whitman's 70th birthday and with two new notes by him (the brief one on the title, and the introduction to "A Backward Glance o'er Travel'd Roads"). The original price was $5. Also accompanied by a period removable linen book cover with front cover illustration of wild grasses, lettered in imitation of the cover stamping.
