First American Edition.Following brief service in India, where he found the climate disagreeable, Cumming joined the Cape Riflemen in 1843. He was more interested in the hunt than in keeping the peace, and most of his time was spent pursuing wild animals. This copy bears the bookplate of John Patrick Ford. Condition: Soiling and wear to cloth, some corners bumped, some fraying at head and heel of spines, small tear at heel of vol. 2; hinges cracked, discoloration at endpapers, foxing throughout; good.
