New Edition.Constance Frederica "Eka" Gordon-Cumming was a prolific travel writer and landscape painter who traveled the world and painted over a thousand watercolors. In 1879 she traveled to Hawaii and was among the first artists to paint the active volcanoes. She received much criticism from male writers of the era, perhaps because she did not fit in the traditional Victorian role of women, as she often traveled alone and unaided. Condition: Soiling to cloth, some rubbing at edges and corners; front hinge cracked, previous owner's name in pen on front free endpaper, bookplate affixed to front flyleaf, scattered foxing; very good.
