(4to) period calf, morocco spine label lettered in gilt. Second Edition (?).Lady Craven, who separated from her husband and traveled alone, eventually married her correspondent, Alexander, the Margrave of Bradenburg-Anspach and Bayreuth. "Lady Craven is said to have been the first woman that descended into the grotto of Antiparos" (Cox). The folding map is: A Map of the Roads of Crim Tartary, the Ancient Chersonesus Taurica. Condition: Some wear and tear to binding; hinges cracked; bookplate on front pastedown; tape repair and a couple small tears to map; some foxing, a few marginal notes in pencil; very good in a good binding.
