Lot 402: Author: Lowrie, Walter M.; Title: Memoirs of the Rev. Walter M. Lowrie, Missionary to China. Edited by his Father; Place Published: NY; Publisher: Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church; Date Published: 1850; Description: Third Thousand. Original cloth. 500+ 4pp. Frontis. portrait and some text illustrations. After graduating from the Princeton Theological Seminary, 24 year-old Lowrie sailed on a five-month voyage to China in 1842. This book, compiled from his papers by his father, describes his five years of missionary work at Macao and Ningpo, detailing his observations of Chinese culture and social life. Lowrie died by drowning when a boat on which he was sailing was attacked by pirates who threw him into the sea. Condition: Very good.
