Lot 397: Hozier (Pierre d'). Les noms, Surnoms, Qualitez, Armes et Blasons des Chevaliers et Officers de l'Ordre du S. Esprit, creez par Louis le Juste, XIII. du nom, roy de France et de Navarre, a Fontainbleau, le 14 May 1633: Avec ... un ample discours sur ce qui s'y est passe, Paris: Melchior Tavernier, 1634, additional engraved title (following letterpress title), three double-page engraved plates representing different occasions during the ceremony, fifty-eight leaves of text each with large engraved armorial (printed to recto only), contemporary manuscript ownership inscription to letterpress title "de: 1639 - J. Strange", occasional light spotting, bookplates of William Charles De Meuron, Earl Fitzwilliam and John L. Nevinson, hinges repaired, near contemporary calf, rebacked, small folio. Includes leaf 29 with engraved armorial of Marshal of France Jean Caylar d'Anduze de Saint-Bonnet, Marquis de Toiras. Toiras was absent from the ceremony and leaf 29 is often not represented in the volume. Provenance: Claude Blair FSA, OBE, CVO (1922-2010), the eminent scholar of European arms and armour and historic metalwork, funerary sculpture, English parish churches and the decorative arts. He was Keeper at the Department of Metalwork, Victoria and Albert Museum, from 1972-82. (1)
