(8vo) 22.5x14 cm (9x5½") modern suede-backed marbled boards. First Edition in French.Scarce history of the religious orders of the Chinese Empire. Antoine-Pierre-Louis Bazin (1799-1862) was famous French sinologist. He was the student of A. Remusat and S. Julien, in 1840 he became the professor of Chinese at the Royal Library at the School of Oriental Languages, and Assistant Secretary of the Asiatic Society. He was a frequent contributor to the Asian Journal. OCLC locates only 4 copies, 2 at the University of California, one at Ohio State, and another at the Bibiotheque Nationale de France. No copies in recent auction records. Condition: Some foxing; in a fine modern binding.
