First American Edition.One of the most important works on African exploration. Barth was attached to the British expedition to Central Africa led by James Richardson. Following Richardson's death in 1851, Barth completed the expedition. Condition: Rubbing to edges of cloth, fading to spine lettering, slight fraying at head and heel of spines, some discoloration at spine head of volume 3; small bookplates affixed to front paste-down pages, scattered foxing throughout, occasional damp stains at page edges; very good.
