A handsomely bound UK edition of American poet William Cullen Bryant's monumental monograph on North America, a classic work of Americana which proved to be an instant success when it was first published in the US in 1872-4. The superb plates were engraved by Robert Hinshelwood, a Scots engraver who emigrated to America in 1835 where he established a considerable reputation for his work on landscapes.
