Illustrated with engraved frontispiece portrait & 678 copper-engraved plates. (8vo) 21x13 cm (8 1/4 x5"), period quarter calf & marbled boards, morocco lettering pieces. Nice set of Buffon's natural history, the first ten volumes covering mammals, the last ten birds. The plates in the first ten volumes are numbered 1-418, with an 83A, and no plates 107, 119, or 211. Plates no. 263 and 264 from Vol. 8, along with text pages 183 and 186, are bound into Vol. 20, for some odd reason. There are no signs of removal of the missing plates.Due to the size and/or weight of this lot extra shipping and/or handling charges may apply. Spines rubbed as are some boards; most title pages bear the old rubberstamp of Stevens' Hospital Medical Library dated 1813; overall very good, contents clean, plates with sharp impressions.
