Description: With 21 lithographed plates including added pictorial title page, with  preliminary pages of text & sheet of descriptive letterpress following each plate; plain paper protective interleaves. (folio) 41.6x32.5 cm (16½x12¾"), period light brown morocco tooled in gilt & blind, spine lettered in gilt, all edges gilt. Well-executed series of costume plates notable for depictions of the common citizens as well as those in the upper echelons of society. Trained as an architect, Thomas Allom gained greater renown for his topographical and ethnographic drawings which illustrated numerous travel works. The fine lithographs, both black and white and duotone, were printed by Hullmandel. Condition: Some staining and wear to covers, edges rubbed, joints and spine ends worn; some light and mostly marginal foxing within; bookplate; very good.
