Author: Audubon, John James & John Woodhouse Audubon; Title: Collection of 82 hand-colored lithographed plates after John James & John Woodhouse Audubon, from the octavo edition of The Quadrupeds of North America; Place Published: New York; Publisher: V.G. Audubon; Date Published: 1854; Description: Plates are loose in acetate sleeves in a modern flexible calf binder. Plates measure approx. 26x17 cm (10¼x6¾"); binder is 31x26 cm (12¼x10¼").Plates from the famed collaboration between J.J. Audubon and his sons, John Woodhouse and Victor Gifford, and the Lutheran minister, John Bachman. They traveled through much newly explored territory, illustrating many species that are scarce or endangered today. Beautiful hand-colored plates of hares, squirrels, buffalo, wolves, deer, grizzly bears, etc. There are a few duplicate plates in the collection. Generally very good condition, sold as a collection of plates, not subject to return.
