Lot 237: Author: Dickens, Charles. Title: The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club. Place Published: London. Publisher: Chapman and Hall. Date Published: 1837. Description: xiv, (2), 609 pp. With 42 (of 43) etched plates after Robert Seymour and Hablot K. Browne ("Phiz"). (8vo) later blue half morocco and marbled boards, spine ruled in gilt, red and green labels. First Edition in Book Form, Early Issue. Early issue of Dickens' first novel. Lacking the frontispiece. The two suppressed plates by R. Buss not present. The vignette title with the sign reading "Tony Weller" and signed "PHIZ. fecit"; textual errors corrected. Foxing throughout, some staining (heavier to plates); good in a fine modern binding.
