Lot 234: Author: Zakreski, Alexsander & J.H. Hartmann Title: The Latest Map of the Mi?ing District and Bay of San Francisco Compiled from the most recent Surveys containing all the latest discoveries & the situations and Routes to the newest towns. Lith. by Zakreski & Hartmann. Clay Street, above Portsmouth Sque. 1851. Place Published: San Francisco Publisher: Date Published: 1851 Description: Lithographed map on thin paper. 33.5x25.5 cm (13 ?x10") This apparently is the only known copy of this map. No copies of the original are listed in OCLC/WorldCat, just a photocopy and three "internet resources. The present map was purchased by Warren Heckrotte from John Howell-Books in 1970, at which time the proprietor, Warren Howell, told him that this copy was sold at Anderson Galleries in 1923. Mr. Heckrotte states that "The map is based on Jackson's 1850 map of the mining region but with many additions." One tiny fox spot in left margin, else fine.
