(8vo) original dark blue cloth, pictorial cover label embellished with metallic silver & green ink; pictorial endpapers in black and orange. First Canadian Edition. Scarce first Canadian edition, identical to the American first printing, except for the imprint of the Canadian publisher on the spine and title page. The color plate generally found at p. 116 is not present in this copy. Featuring the elaborate cover label showing a number of characters traveling through the city, spine lettered in black with picture of a rabbit in black and silver. The striking use of metallic ink on the illustrations and cover label can only be found in the first printings. Bienvenue & Schmidt, p. 48. Condition: Some wear and soiling to cloth with rubbing to extremities, spine and color label a but dulled; front hinge cracked, early gift inscription on verso of front free endpaper, and owner's signature on page opposite, toning to interior with scattered light foxing affecting the margins of some plates; very good.
