By the Hydrographic Party under the command of W.P. Mc.Arthur Lieut. U.S. Navy... and W.A. Bartlett Lieut. U.S. Navy Assistant Place Published: [Washington, D.C.] Publisher: Date Published: 1850 Description: Engraved chart on three sheet of heavy paper, not folded. Each sheet approx. 49x44 cm (19 ?x17 ?"). Second Edition. Uncommon separately issued set of charts for the west coast, not from the Report of the U.S. Coast Survey, on thick paper with wide margins. There are sailing directions engraved on the charts, and four coastal views. Drawn by W.B. Mc.Murtree. Engraved by A. Roll?, F. Dankworth, O.A. Lawson, G. Mc.Coy & W. Smith. There were three editions of this chart. On the present example, Sheet 1 has ship positions in pencil, one marked "Jan 1st 1853". Paper a bit browned with some foxing, sheet 2 with marginal creases and a few chips at upper left; very good. Provenance: Swanns, 11/89.
