Thayer Date Published: 1871 Description: Lithographed map, hand-colored. 64.5x84 cm (25?x33") folding into gilt-lettered blindstamped cloth covers 15.5x10 cm (6 ?x4"). Striking, large, brightly hand-colored map of Colorado. Ellis, in Colorado Mapology, p 77, declares "This is by far the best map of Colorado to date." The great influx of miners and others begun in 1859 with the Pikes Peak Gold Rush resulted in both added settlements and added geographic knowledge, all reflected in this influential map. Label of Grant & Co., Bookseller of Denver, on inside of front cover. A few tiny nicks at folds, else fine. Provenance: Goodspeeds, 10/72.
