Lot 217: Author: Tennent, Thomas Title: Map of Lower Oregon and Upper California from the latest and Most Authentic Surveys Published by Thomas Tennent, at the Surveying & Navigation Warehouse Sign of the Wooden Sailor. San Francisco California Place Published: San Francisco Publisher: Date Published: 1853 Description: Lithographed map. Lithographed by Alex. Zakreseki. 34.5x39 cm (13?x15?"), folding into cloth covers with printed paper label on front, 15.2x9 cm (6x3?"). Rare map that includes some details of the California gold region, plus the coast from Mendocino to Umpqua River, inland to the Sierra Nevada, with Mount Shasta, Lassen's Butte, Crescent City, etc. Shows the Emigrant Trail. OCLC/WorldCat lists four copies in Institutional Libraries, and Warren Heckrotte enumerates seven copies in both public and private hands. Folder split along spine, with archival paper repair; maps with splits and slight browning at some folds; very good. Provenance: Yerba Buena, 4/92.
