How to survive an Atomic Bomb. Heading: (Atomic Bomb). Title: ABC-Atomic Bombing Care instructional toy. Place Published: San Francisco. Publisher: Joe Fredriksson Toy & Game Mfg. Co. Date Published: 1951. Description: Sealed box containing image scrolls, with turning knobs for changing and matching images to teach children to survive a nuclear attack. 26.5x18x3.5 cm. (10x8x1¼"). Somewhat eerie relic of the Cold War, a game to teach young school children how to survive a nuclear attack by lining up parallel halves of images. On the back are printed "For Parents and Teachers: Six Survival Secrets for Atomic Attacks..." and "Five Keys to Household Safety." Among these sure-fire survival techniques, "Try to get Shielded.. Drop Flat on Ground or Floor.. Close all Windows and Doors and Draw the Blinds..." etc. Because the box is sealed, these educational toys were often destroyed by youngsters ripping them apart to see how they functioned. The present example escaped that fate. Condition: Some faint staining, one corner splitting; very good.
