Lot 209: Forster (Westgarth). A Treatise on a Section of the Strata, Commencing near Newcastle Upon Tyne, and Concluding on the West Side of the Mountain of Cross-Fell. With Remarks on Mineral Veins in General... To which are Added Tables of the Strata in Yorkshire and Derbyshire. The whole intended to amuse the Mineralogist, and assist the Miner in his Professional Researches, 1st ed., Newcastle, 1809, subscribers list (with errata slip pasted at end), folding plate at end (with repair to one fold), twelve wood engraved illustrations of strata, scattered light spotting & dust-soiling, light toning and few marks to margins, edges untrimmed, endpapers renewed with near contemporary previous owner's name & address slip to upper pastedown, modern blind panelled calf gilt, 8vo. Very rare first edition on North-East vertical strata discovered through mining, developing mineral veins, ore prospecting and hushing from dams on hillsides.
