Scarce map of the San Francisco Bay Area showing the ranchos that dominated land ownership before the Gold Rush, to be dissolved over the succeeding years. A fascinating glimpse of Old California as it was becoming new. Ransom surveyed the Mount Diablo Meridian and Baseline in 1851. Rare: OCLC/WorldCat locates only two copies of the original, at U.C.
