Bushnell Date Published: 1873 Description: Lithographed map, hand-colored in outline. Lithographed by Nathan Land, Lithographer, New York. 57.5x60.6 cm (22?x23?") plus decorative border, folding into blindstamped cloth covers lettered in gilt, 15x10 cm (6x4"). Rare map privately published for the subscribers of the Cimarron News, generally acknowledged as the first separate map of New Mexico. The map shows the boundaries of private land grants, military reservations, and proposed railroad lines. With publisher's label affixed to inside front cover, "Published By Harry Whigham & F.A. Bushnell. Cimarron, New Mexico. For sale by all Booksellers in New Mexico, Colorado, and Kansas. Price Without cover, $1.50. With cover, $2.00. Muslin back, and on rollers, $3.50." Below the label is a later in ownership inscription of C.A. Grannell, Berkeley, Cal. Map backed with linen, reinforcing and repairing wear at folds; cloth covers rebacked; else very good.
