Illustrated with 21 engraved plates, 17 of which are hand-colored; tissue guards. (12mo) 16.5x10.5 cm (6½x4¼") later three-quarter red morocco and marbled boards, spine gilt, top edge gilt. Revised Edition. The best edition. Originally issued as Art of Angling in 1842, then as Blacker's Catechism of Fly-making in 1843. This edition contains splendid plates depicting flies, which are marvelously detailed and brightly hand colored. Earlier editions contained mounted flies. Westwood & Satchell call for the frontispiece to also be hand-colored, it is uncolored in this copy. "The work is a strange medley of practical usefulness and rhapsodical extravagance.
