Lot 175: Author: Jackson, William A. Title: Map of the Mining District of California by Wm. A. Jackson Place Published: New York Publisher: Theodore A. Mudge Date Published: 1850 Description:Lithographed map. Lithographed by Lambert & Lane. 44.5x44.3 cm (17?x17"), folding into original thin leather covers 14.8.8 cm (5?x3?"), with 12 pp. text "Appendix to Jackson's Map of the Mining District of California." First Edition, second issue of the map, on lighter weight paper with some additions. Very rare first edition of Jackson's important and influential map of the mineral regions of California, stretching from the Mariposa River in the south to Reading's Ranch in the north, and encompassing the San Francisco Bay Area. A bit of wear to covers, which are split in two along spine; some foxing to text, which is loose; map with some browning where attached into the folder, a few small separations at folds; very good overall. Provenance: K. Harrison, 5/91.
