Lot 166: Author: McAllaster, B.; Title: Millions of Acres of Cheap Lands in the most Fertile Part of the Great West! The best place to buy a grain farm, to buy a stock farm, to buy a sheep ranch...; Place Published: [Kansas City, Mo.]; Publisher: Ramsey, Millett & Hudson, Printers; Date Published: [1881]; Description: Folded sheet, 5 panels, with a map and a woodcut illustration. Overall 19x43 cm (7½x16¾"), folding to 19x8.8 cm (7½x3½").Rare little brochure extolling the fine lands available in Kansas, and Colorado, from the Union Pacific Railway. The map, which crosses three panels and measures 10.5x24.5 cm (4 ¼x10"), is "Map of Union Pacific Railway & Branches in Kansas & Colorado." It shows all of Kansas, and Colorado east and south of Denver. OCLC/WorldCat lists one copy only, and a variant at that, at Yale University - it is only three panels, and smaller size overall, and lists S.J. Gilmore as the Land Commissioner rather than B. McAllaster. The present example includes the original paper display folder, to place in your real estate office or some such, addressed on the back to S.N. Graham in Enfield Center, N.Y., with inkstamp instruction to "Please tack up." Condition: A corner of the brochure with crease; very good.
