Gensoul, Bookseller & Stationer Date Published: 1864 Description: Lithographed map, ward numbers and concentric circles giving distances from Portsmouth Square printed in red. 33.5x39 cm (13 ?x15 ?"), folding into thin cloth covers with paper label printed in gilt on front cover, 10x7.7 cm (4x3"). Rare little map showing the rail transit of the city of San Francisco, west as far as Divisadero Street, which is at the top, and south to Napa Street. Four street railways are shown: North Beach and Mission Railroad, Market Street Railroad, Central Railroad and the Omnibus Railroad. The paper label on front cover reads "Gensoul's Railroad Pocket Map of the City of San Francisco, Cal." An ad for Pacific Map Depot's maps is on the inside front cover. Undated but issued in 1864; it is also found in Stilwell's Directory issued in 1864. Slight nicks at folds, fine or nearly so. The separate issue is especially rare. Provenance: Almagre, 3/08.
