Lot 150: Guer (Jean-Antoine). Moeurs et usages des Turcs, leur religion, leur gouvernement civil, militaire et politique : avec un abrege de l'histoire ottomane..., 2 vols., mixed impressions, Paris: Coustelier, and F.G. Merigot & Piget, 1646-47, engraved frontispiece to each, titles in red & black, twenty-eight plates (including 7 folding), numerous engraved head & tailpieces, occasional spotting and toning, contemporary mottled calf, gilt decorated spines, rubbed and some wear, 4to. Atabey 534 (Coustelier issue); Blackmer 762 (mixed issue). This work contains plates of Turkish characters and costumes and a folding panorama of Constantinople. The first edition was published by Coustelier in 1746 and 1747, with later editions & impressions being published by Merigot and Piget. Pirated editions were also produced.
