Lot 144: Author: N/A; Title: Saloon Passenger List for the 1887 voyage of Queen Kapiolani and Princess Lilinokalani [sic, i.e. Liliuokalani] to England; Place Published: [New York]; Publisher: N/A; Date Published: 1887; Description: 4 pp. Chromolithograph wrappers, printed on inner pages. 18.5x12.5 cm (7 ¼x5").Passenger list from the S.S. "City of Rome" voyage from New York to Liverpool, May 25, 1887. The Queen Consort of Hawaii, Kapiolani and Princess Liliuokalani and their traveling party heading the list. Queen Kapi?olani traveled to London to attend Queen Victoria's 50th Jubilee celebration. Crown Princess Lili?uokalani, King Kal?kaua's sister, traveled with Kapi?olani as her interpreter since though Kapi?olani was brought up understanding English, she refused to speak anything but Hawaiian. The Hawaiian Royal family were treated as dignitaries, and were seated with the British Royal family in the front of Westminster Abbey. Condition: Corners chipped, a bit soiled, splitting at center fold; good.
