Large chart of the West Coast from north of Santa Barbara to the Canadian border at the height of the Gold Rush, with large insets of The Strait of Juan De Fuca, Admiralty Inlet and Puget Sound; The Entrance of the Columbia River; and The Harbour of San Francisco San Pablo and Suisun Bays. Four of the coastal views are along the left hand side extending vertically, of The Entrance to the Columbia River; Trinidad Head; Cape Mendocino; and The Entrance to San Francisco. The fifth view is within the San Francisco Bay inset, and is of Benicia, from the Anchorage. The chart is surprisingly scarce; OCLC/WorldCat locates only two copies, both at the British Library. A little minor creasing, some expert repairs and tissue reinforcements on verso around the edges, piece replaced in top margin; very good. Provenance: S. Fisher, 6/82.
