Farnham Place Published: New York Publisher: Date Published: 1845 Description: Cerographic [i.e. wax engraved] map. 35x27.8 cm (14x11"). Significant pre-gold rush map of California and the southwest from the Rio Grande to the Pacific, and the tip of Baja to the Oregon border, about 42? north, with Santa Fe, Sonora (in present Mexico), San Francisco, Pueblo de Los Angeles, and many other towns and cities in California, among them "Suter's Colony." The map first appeared in Farnham's Travels in the Californias, 1844. It was then included in Morse and Breese, North American Atlas, New York, 1845, No. 34, from which this copy came. Paper slightly toned, as is common, small, faint stain at lower margin just intruding into ocean portion; very good. Provenance: California Book Auction, 4/30/83.
