Stewart, who wrote the music for the production. Place Published: No place. Date Published: 1915. Description: (2), 45 leaves, typed on rectos only, unbound. With modern custom-made slipcase & chemise. Original carbon typescript for London's "California Forest Play, Planned to be Sung by Efficient Singers Accompanied by a Capable Orchestra," which was to be published by Macmillan in 1916. The short play shows an Indian tribe's reaction to the arrival of white settlers. In the accompanying presentation letter, dated February 6, 1915, London writes, "Dear Humphrey, Here's the play. If it's too hopeless altogether, chuck it. If you can do anything with it, God bless you. Am mailing one copy to George Sterling in the hope that he may suggest improvements and two copies to Mackenzie Gordon for the Jinks Committee (i. e. of the Bohemian Club). If George doesn't damn it, and you can forgive it, and the Committee doesn't condemn it, then: a free fist to you and to everybody. Do anything you want with it. ." Fine condition.
