Lot 135: Author: Eddy, William Marston Title: Official Map of San Francisco, Compiled from the Field Notes of the Official Re-Survey made by William M. Eddy, Surveyor of the Town of San Francisco, California, 1849. S.W. Higgins Draftn. Copied by P.M. McGill... Place Published: Washington, D.C. Publisher: Date Published: 1849 Description: Lithographed map. 63x48.5 cm. (24?x19"). Important map of Gold Rush San Francisco, issued with William Carey Jones' Report on...Land Titles in California... in the Report of the Secretary of the Interior for 1850. There were two separate issues of the Jones report, but neither of them included the map. This is one of the copies of the map to have a bit of hand coloring indicating land grants. There is an identical version drawn by Alex. Zakrzewski (Zakreski) lithographed in New York; it does not have the color code designating the several land grants. This is the second printed map of San Francisco, preceded by a slightly different version based on the same survey by Eddy and lithographed in San Francisco. Old folds; a tiny tear near left edge, top right corner chipped in margin; very good. Provenance: PBA, 8/27/98. PBA Galleries' Rare Cartography, Exploration & Voyages Thursday, 3rd December 2015 Estimate: $800-1200
