Lot 126: Author: London, Jack. Title: War of the Classes - inscribed to Charles Warren Stoddard. Place Published: New York. Publisher: Macmillan Company. Date Published: 1905. Description: xix, (1), 278 + (3) ad pp. Maroon cloth, spine stamped in gilt. First Edition. Inscribed on the front endpapers: "To Charles Warren Stoddard. Dear Dad - Your most kind, letter just received. I fear me I shall live up to my plan and remain a recluse for the rest of the summer. It is going on two months since I've had a hat on my head. In that time I've had only one caller, and that caller never saw me. I hid away. With deep love, Jack London. Residence unknown, May 20th, 1905." A later inscription from the author's daughter, Becky London, on front pastedown. London's collected essays on socialism and the class struggle. Scarce, only 2530 copies printed. BAL 11885; Sisson & Martens, p. 22. Light wear verso of front free endpaper and half title stained from laid in newspaper clipping; near fine.
