Lot 121: Blacker (William). Blacker's Art of Fly Making &c., comprising Angling, & Dyeing of Colours, with Engravings of Salmon & Trout Flies shewing the Process of the Gentle Craft..., with Descriptions of Flies for the Season of the Year as they come out on the Water, Rewritten & Revised by the Author Blacker, Himself, Fishing Tackle Maker of 54, Dean St. Soho, London, 1855, engraved vignette frontispiece and title, twenty engraved plates (including 17 hand-coloured), decorative borders to text, a few minor marks, all edges gilt, 20th century gilt decorated dark green morocco by Bayntun of Bath, joints cracked, lacking upper panel of spine, small 8vo. This work was originally issued as Art of Angling in 1842, then as Blacker's Catechism of Fly-making in 1843. This edition contains hand-coloured plates depicting flies, whereas the earlier editions contained mounted flies. Westwood & Satchell call for the frontispiece to be hand-coloured, which it is not in this copy. Westwood & Satchell p.33. (1)
